The major histological characteristics of the differentiated carcinomas are summarised in Fig. 16.10. Rare tumours of follicular and cell origin include columnar cell papillary carcinomas, diffuse sclerosing papillary carcinomas, clear cell carcinomas, and insular carcinomas. These variants tend to have a worse prognosis than the classical types.
